- Before the ‘Is Football too Dangerous’ debate,I believed that football was a dangerous sport, but it wasn’t to the point where players would drop dead on the field. I didn’t believe that football was TOO dangerous. In all honesty, it seemed preposterous that major football leagues would allow a dangerous sport to be played especially if it could cause serious damage to the player. I was , however, stuck on the question about whether I’d allow my children to play football. At first, I was going to say no because I didn’t like the idea of my child getting hit by other children. Football is a full-contact sport after all, however as I kept thinking about it if my child wanted to play and if it would make him happy to play football, I’d let him.
- As I began to research more about football, my knowledge on the sport and its risks grew. My view on football has definitely changed and I think it is safe to say that I despise it. After viewing the statistics, after seeing these players and their families suffer from CTE, after seeing how dangerous football really is and how buisness shaped it into this amazing cultural sport, I believe that football IS TOO DANGEROUS.
- In my opinion, in a couple of years there will be various technologies that will have the ability to make football safer. If the equipment, particularly helmets change to help players protect their skulls from CONCUSSIONS. Then, that will be a game changer. However, with the rough intensity of the game's dynamics and rules, I doubt that even with a ‘miracle’ helmet could save players from danger.
