After watching the film, League of Denial, I think it’s safe to say that I’ll never look at football the same way again. While I may seem like an enemy to those who are passionately involved with football and those you include the sport in their everyday lives, I was once a fan of the intense NFL football leauge. After watching the film, League of Denial, I strongly deny the fact that football is safe. In fact, I was livid after the film because not only did the NFL try to cover up important testing and information, but the stories and suffering the football players had to endure was horrific and really upsetting.
Even this year! On January 24, 2016, I was perched against the wall sitting on my mother's favorite love chair. My mother setting the dining room table for diner and my grandma eagerly switching channels till we finally landed on the one I knew millions of other families where currently watching. Eager, spirited and excited. Did they even know about CTE? Hit upon hit, concussion after concussion, the sport news anchor yells through his mic like a warrior in battle. NFL players collapsed one over the other like a game of dominos. It was a game. A very, very brutal one. To be honest, I would flinch when the camera zoomed on a player who had just fallen to a tackle, or as the video was rewinded and shown over and over again. It scared me knowing that one of these player or maybe all of them were carrying CTE. It made me wonder about my brother who played football with his friends and at the age of eight, a few of his friends had already gone home with a concussion.
Overall, I have to say that I’m glad that League of Denial, brought awareness not only to myself, but for others as well. Hopefully everyone will make the right decision when involving themselves and their kids in serious sports.
